The Liban Quarry’s history dates back to 1873 when it was established by two prominent Jewish families from Podgórze, Kraków, for limestone extraction to produce quicklime. During World War II, the quarry took a dark turn, becoming a site of forced labor under Nazi occupation. Prisoners, primarily Poles and Ukrainians, endured grueling conditions, extracting limestone for the German war effort. The camp operated from 1942 until its liquidation in 1944, leaving behind a legacy of suffering and resilience. Today, the quarry stands as a somber reminder of the atrocities committed during that period.
