Unusual Urbex – Abandoned Strawberry Next To The Road

This Urbex Trip Was Unexpected

Have you ever visited something by mistake? We find spontaneous urbex trips may be more interesting and exciting than planned trips. Traveling from Warsaw to Modlin, we found something strange.  A decaying strawberry lay next to the road. You may ask “So what? There is nothing strange in strawberries laying next to the road”. Ok, but this strawberry is about 10 meters. Surprised? Yes, we were surprised as well. We stopped and we took some photos of this huge abandoned strawberry. Why the huge strawberry lies next to the road? How did it get there? Why no one took it? So many questions, so little answers.

We made some research to learn the story of this abandoned fruit.

Abandoned Strawberry Has Interesting, But Sad Story

The strawberry wasn’t always on the lawn next to the road. Once upon a a time, the strawberry stood with pride and dignity and was a symbol of a dynamically developing farm called Sadpol. It was a 700-hectares field, full of strawberries of course. Thousands of kilograms of strawberries were grown there annually. The owner used innovative irrigation systems there. The farm was a workplace for many local people. The fruit was sold not only in Poland but also a broad. It could have been the most powerful strawberry farm all over the world. Unfortunately, humans’ laziness killed this beautiful dream. The owner had problems with employees finding. He paid very well, but the people didn’t want to work for him. It’s hard to say what was the reason, but we guess he was a good employer. Sadly, he had to close the strawberry field. The symbol of this farm lies now by the road and reminds people about its golden days.

Strawberry Joined Our Abandoned Places Photography Gallery

The strawberry is strange. It looks a little bit creepy but there is something special about it. We visited the abandoned strawberry twice. First time in winter and we took here dark gloomy photos. We decided to return there in the springtime. We captured the same object, but the photos vary from the winter edition. Spring photos are full of sunshine and greenery.  It’s amazing how the season and weather can change the mood of photos. It was a nice urbex trip. We saw a lot of abandoned places like factories, houses, mansions or palaces. But that was the first time when we explored abandoned strawberry. It’s another interesting point on our urbex map.
